Indian River Lagoon Science Festival Blog

Today, I am going to be talking about the Indian River Lagoon Science Festival. This year’s Science Festival happened on October 17, 2018 at10:00 am and ended at 3:00 pm and it was Sun Grove Montessori School’s 5th year participating. The Science Festival’s main mission is to help people realize that science is relevant, fun, and an interesting part of our lives and features a variety of science and technology related activities, that are interactive, relevant fun for both children and adults. It was located at 600 N Indian River Drive, Fort Pierce, Florida 34949.

The younger students at our school dressed up as mosquitos for the Procession of the Species. The Procession started at St. Andrews School at 10:30 am and participants walked from St. Andrews all the way to The IRL Science Festival. Our school hosted a booth about insects. We brought insect specimens and magnifying glasses and we wanted to make the insect booth fun, so we ran a “Bug Bingo” game based on different insects from around the world. Students had shifts and ran the booth during their shift. There were variety of different booths from scientists, communities and schools. The booths had crafts and different ways for people to learn about science in a fun way. They also had a whole section for food and a stage for entertainment. It was very fun event for children and adults.
