The South Florida Science Museum
On Friday, November 30th, 2018, the Sungrove Montessori middle school students went to the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium. Where we went through the dinosaur exhibit, attended a workshop where we were able to learn about fossils and engage in a fossil hunt, and watched a documentary about the earth in the planetarium.
In the dinosaur exhibit they had many different dinosaurs. They talked about what period of time they lived in, they said what food they ate and if they were a herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore. They even had real life animatronic dinosaurs, that moved and made noise.
In the planetarium, we watched a documentary that talked about what the earth was like before we were here and they compared earth to how mars is. They also talked about what fish and sea creatures swam the oceans in the early years of life on Earth.
After we went through the dinosaur exhibit and watched the documentary in the planetarium we enjoyed a hands on workshop where we learned about paleontology and dug through sand to find different fossils from dinosaurs and sharks.
Lastly, we explored the rest of the museum and aquarium. Where we learned about shadows, hurricanes and how many miles per hour the winds get to, tornadoes and how they form, and magnets and how they stick together. Then we all had lunch at their picnic tables in their outside area. After we ate lunch we explored the outside exhibits, overall it was a very fun and interesting field trip.
