Waste Water Treatment Plant Trip.
WasteWater Treatment Plant
On Tuesday, October 30th, 2018, Sungrove Montessori Middle school took a field trip to the water treatment plant. Tim Vanasdale, the Chief Operator, greeted us at the door, Jeff Golden, the Water Plant Operator gave us the tour, Mike Futo another Water Plant Operator, spoke at the end of the tour in the control room and Jennifer Tomes, the Utility Marketing Manager met with us afterward.
During the lesson with Mr. Jeff we learned that the wastewater treatment plants have the capacity to treat 18 million gallons of wastewater per day. This division is responsible for: Operation, repairs, maintenance of two. The two water treatment plants combined have the capacity to produce 41.65 million gallons of water per day. This division is responsible for operation repair.
At the end of our tour we sampled water. One sample was from the tap and the other was water with minerals. We Each got to taste the difference between tap and mineral water. Many of us thought the tap water taste very plain and the mineral water taste better. We also did some hands on experiments that were informative and fun. It was a very interesting trip and we learned that water treatment is important for our communities health!
