Barbara Scott Memorial

Ms. Barbara Scott was the founding head of school of Sun Grove Montessori School. She held this position for more than 30 years and in addition to leading the expansion of infant and toddler programs, she led the expansion of a true Montessori middle school program with a Cafe set up for a micro-economy.

The Sun Grove Montessori board of directors partnered with Ms. Barbara’s family, alumni and others who knew Ms. Barbara and the legacy she left to create a memorial garden. The school prepared a beautiful area with a path to a marble bench etched with a quote and cardinal. Children, teachers and anyone wishing to honor Ms. Barbara painted rocks which were added to the garden in her memory.

A special dedication was held for her on August 8th, of 2018. Many people came and family and friends talked about some of the best times they had with her and the many wonderful things they loved about her.

Her oldest grandchild even wrote her a beautiful poem. Barbara was an amazing person she was kind, caring always willing to support and help people she was smart. She really loved to teach, and she liked to help out the school. We wouldn’t be the school we are today if it weren’t for Barbara Scott.

We shall walk together on this path of life, for all things are part of the universe and are connected with each other from one whole unity. – Maria Montessori
